DLR interviews

I think this is the best DLR-era VH show in existence. The band rocks hard and has a good time while doing it. They are really in their element in this video - nice sized indoor arena (but not too big), good crowd that is right up against the stage, and a nice partying atmosphere.

I was a little disappointed in the lighting for Eddie Van Halen during a lot of the guitar solos. The onstage light for him was above and slightly to the rear of him. Normally this would be OK, but for a guitarist, it puts the fret board in a shadow, so even during close-ups, you can't see things as well as if the light were shining on him from the front. Also, occasionally while Eddie is lighting up the fret board, the camera is showing Dave waving his tongue or shaking his ass at some girl in the crowd. I'd prefer to have the camera on Eddie during those times - but I'm a guitarist, which makes me a little biased. HOWEVER, during his extended guitar solo (Eruption), everything is well lit and super, super close at times.

The video itself is not mint, but it is very good. Every 5-10 minutes you'll see a video glitch, but none of them are major.

The on-stage lighting made it really hard to film the band at times because it was so bright that it would zap the picture whenever the camera lens got flooded with light. The cameramen filming from the floor in front of the stage used the band members to block the light from flooding the camera. However, because the band was constantly jumping all over the place (especially Dave), this was hard to do. The stage level shots from the side and back of the arena never had problems with the lights flooding the camera lens.

Dave tells lots of great Dave-isms during the show.
