The Division Bell Anthology
Last year, when I was borrowing many VHS tapes from our friend Jon Rosenberg (Ruby Takes A Trip and others), he sent one labelled "The Division Bell Anthology". What a great idea for a collection! When I watched it, it was quickly obvious that the picture quality was so bad that it simply would not be acceptable to transfer it to DVD. But, it was exactly the inspiration that I needed! With PULSE coming out officially on DVD in the reasonably near future, why not get everyone revved up a little early ?
I searched high & low to find this series of films, which, I hope, will flash you back to 1994 in a big way. The Division Bell Album and Tour was a big deal to me, personally, because I thought that the cover art - even for each of the promotional CDs, tour book, etc - was astonishing! Plus, of course, the lighting, special effects, films, pigs, and all the rest of it was such an event. The Division Bell is an incredible album - and I'm certain that the official PULSE DVD will be a gem!
I hope that my 2 DVD set will help to flesh out the PULSE experience for the serious fans out there!
The primary contents are 2 MTV specials - one from the US and one from the UK. My mother actually recorded the US special for me back in 1994. Thanks, Mom!! The UK special was provided by our friend down in Florida. The US special contains the full live promotional film for Keep Talking. This is completely different from the version that is on PULSE. I put a QuickTime version of this video (from the official Pink Floyd "Echoes" site) on the Blurry Visions DVD last year. This version is a little more pleasing to the eyes! The UK special, as it was originally broadcast, contained lots of videos from Delicate Sound Of Thunder. These were cut by Mr. M, I suppose because he thought they were a bit boring. But, he left in the One Slip video, which was pretty darn rare at the time. These days, it's significantly less so, having come out (most recently) on the Omnipresent DVD. However, I left it in place here just for history's sake.
One of my favorite conceptual videos has always been the film for Shine On. This full video hasn't ever been available - shown on MTV, released on promotional VHS tape, or otherwise. Apparently, Storm asked Dave about the possibility of releasing it on the PULSE DVD as an "extra" - but Dave wouldn't allow it. So, what I've done is the next best thing... I have taken the video from the LD of PULSE and re-cut it, so you get to see only the Shine On video, without the other stuff. It isn't as nice as it would've been if Dave had given his offical okie-dokie, but it's the best I could do with what is available.
The brilliant cover art has already been transferred to the "Files"
section of the Floyd_VoIO Yahoo Group as well as the "Files" section of the Psychedelic Closet Yahoo Group. Seriously, folks, write to Mr.
H. and tell him that you wish you were half the artist that he is.
Incredible work, once again!!!
Thanks for playing along!
