Many years ago, while at work, a fellow stared at me, and slowly exhaled a
lung full of smoke in my direction. He shook his cigarette purposefully in
my direction and said, "Scott, you really need to meet this guy I know in
Chicago. We went to school together. He's a crazy guy. I'll make some calls."
And so it was, several years and several visits to Chicago later, I was
introduced to one of the ... well ... one of the most completely maniacal,
obsessive collectors of all time. Not just of Pink Floyd, mind you, but of
*everything* that was media in general - but especially music. Any band you
have ever heard of, he has every album they ever put out. His home contains
in excess of 30,000 LPs. After spending many quality hours digging through
his materials - which are in every corner and horizontal surface, including
much of the floor - I arrived at a short list of things that I believed were
genuinely worth obtaining from him. You nice folks have already watched the
first of these items - the two MTV Specials that were circulated on
FloydArtifacts earlier this year. Well, here is the second item. It's a complete,
stereo, recording from the original pay-per-view broadcast of Pink Floyd's
appearance at the Knebworth '90 festival. The concert featured seven songs. Only
five of these were broadcast. Two of the five were included on the official LD,
VHS, and DVD releases. The other three songs haven't been seen since the original
broadcast. I paid a substantial amount of $$ for the films. (He needed the money.)
I also own the LD, VHS, and DVD releases of this film as well as the official CDs.
I guess I have no way to require that you own one of the official releases before
signing up for this weed, but I sincerely hope that you choose to do so. This is a
charity gig. All of the profits from the sale will go to the charity. It's the right
thing to do.
This super-deluxe ultimate collector's limited edition is 2 DVDs. The first DVD contains
the 5-song broadcast, taken straight from the original Beta tape. The second is a series
of "extras" that have been conjured out of the Void. The Floyd's appearance on the
Knebworth stage followed a short film that summarized the Floyd's history. I'm sure that
most (if not all) of you folks will have seen at least a portion of this film. It contains
such things as the "It Would Be So Nice" promo video and the film of Barrett having a
picnic and climbing a tree. Typically, it circulates in dreadful quality. Thanks to a nice
chap in the UK, I have what I believe to be a first or second gen copy of this film. And ...
oh, there's loads of other silly stuff as well. Suffice to say that you will get to hear
the missing two songs if you look in the right places and listen closely. Plus, there's
loads of art, swirling lights, and plenty of fun to be had. I must thank Simon for his
technical support, Mr. Hutchison for his unending patience and artistic support, and Mr. X
for tolerating me digging through his boxes of tapes and for answering all of my silly
questions.
In Summary - If you enjoy late-era Pink Floyd at all, you need this film! It is an
incredible copy of an incredible concert! Get one today
