Review

I have just had a Rammstein experience at Brixton Academy on the 3rd of Feb 2005. Let me firstly say I am an experienced concert goer my first being Queen in 1982 and many others like Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, AC/DC and today's groups like The Darkness and The Lostprophets. Since I first heard Rammstein on Kerrang TV (Sonne) I had an immediate liking for the group. I have never been able to like and understand a song, which was not sung in English, but this was something else. I bought all there albums and was delighted to find out they were touring here in England. My sons who are 15 and 10 were as excited as me, we just couldn't wait to see them after all we had heard about there live shows. I was worried that Brixton being a small venue was not going to allow the pyrotechnics, how wrong I was.
The first band Apocalyptica were to be kind to them some what different. Heavy metal Cello's ? not so sure about the slower numbers but the heavy ones rocked. Then the moment we were waiting for. It seemed we were waiting for ages before the curtain dropped and saw the first sight of Rammstein. My jaw dropped and all I could do was say wow (well words a little more rude to be honest) when the band appeared on top of what looked like transformers. The two guitarists were then lowered to the stage floor by platforms as Flake and Oliver stood either side of Christoph. Till then appeared through the middle of the stage and the song Reise Reise then kicked off to full effect. This was followed by Links 234 and the whole place just exploded. In all the concerts I have been to I have never seen so many explosions, fire works and such brilliant lighting. Richard, Paul and Till each had flame throwers during one song and Mein Teil was brilliant when Till flamed Flake who was in a big cauldron.
They did a total of 19 songs a good mix of all their albums but obviously Reise Reise featured mostly, with brilliant versions of Moskau and the place exploded into a ticker tape parade when Amerika hoofed out. It was the best gig I have ever had the pleasure of being at, the time flew and it was a shame it had to end. I could have watched it all night and yes there were songs they didn't do like Engel, Heirate Mich and other classics but you couldn't complain at what they did. I am so envious of the people that are going to see them, because I know what they are going to see and just want to be a part of it again and again.
Rammstein are a truly amazing band there sound was great, there look was great and the whole show was a complete masterpiece. How on earth any band will follow this I just don't know. This experience will remain with my boys and myself for a long time. I am so looking forward to being able to see them again. Roll on the next tour. Rammstein are pure magic.
