John M: “Here's the scoop: New video surfaces: August 25, 1995 - Orpheum Theater, Gzira, Malta. The show was professionally filmed for TV broadcast. I have a DVD from a first generation PAL tape. Quality is 'A'. The only thing stopping it from being A+ is that it is not a 'polished Hollywood' production. Tony Martin's voice is in good form, there are many close ups of all band members, including Geoff Nichols playing rhythm guitar on “The Wizard” and “Mob Rules”. Great close ups of Iommi including especially nice shots during the guitar intro to Black Sabbath. The overall production could have been a bit better, as the film overall is a bit dark and the colors are slightly muted. Other than that it is a brilliant piece of Sabbath history, the best FORBIDDEN footage I have seen so far.”
As of November 2003, Neville Thomas discovered an “upgrade” for the Malta ’95 video that he unearthed for us previously.
Neville Thomas: “I'd just like to let you know that I've finally found a new recording of the Sabbath concert held in Malta on the 25/08/95. Apart from the fact that the concert is now complete (the first had 3/4 of “Iron Man” missing) the quality of sound and vision quality is much better than the first recording I had. This tape also includes Lord Adder's (the supporting band; a local act) gig."
"Iommi apparently praised the guitarist in some press interview. There are so many newspaper articles and letters I've been meaning to scan for you. There was quite a negative reaction from the church when it was announced that Sabbath were going to play here. Keep in mind that Malta is more Catholic than the Vatican!"
Since then, the Malta '95 show has been released as a bootleg DVD in Japan.
